In a swirl of radiant colors, where reality bends into imagination, a solitary figure emerges, half-masked in uniform, half-revealed as their true self. This is "The Role We Wear", a visual symphony of color and identity, designed to explore the layered complexity of modern work life.
The artwork was inspired by a fleeting moment in an office hallway. The artist noticed an employee portrait hung beside a bold plaque bearing the person’s job title. What should have been a simple identification suddenly felt like a paradox. The face was captured in a candid, almost vulnerable moment, eyes full of stories, but beside it stood a cold, crisp label: Senior Analyst, Tech Lead, Assistant Manager. As though the essence of a human life could be filed down to a job description.
This digital piece breathes life into that contrast. The background is psychedelic, a chaotic blend of colors and patterns, representing the emotional, creative, and chaotic humanity behind every face. It’s the internal landscape most people never show at work: dreams, anxieties, memories, inner revolutions. Amid this vibrant chaos stands the composed figure, split between their professional facade and their hidden self. The title card next to them floats, like an artifact, detached from the spirit it’s meant to represent.
"The Role We Wear" is a statement. It challenges the viewer to ask: Are we becoming our job titles? Or are we simply borrowing them while we chase something greater?
This artwork isn’t just a visual, it’s a mirror for the millions who walk through office doors every morning, wearing masks of functionality while harboring oceans of creativity within.
